Welcome Messages From our
District 21 2009-2010 Executive Team
A message from our District Governor:
Dear Fellow Toastmasters,
We have begun a new Toastmasters year, and I hope everyone is off to a great start. We had a good year in 2008/09, and I want to thank our Immediate Past District Governor, Joanne Morrison DTM for her leadership of District 21 last year. This year is going to be even better.
I have always believed that we grow the most when we take on a challenge. We learn the most when we don't know how to solve it. We gain the most confidence when we find that solution and succeed in the challenge. As your new District Governor, I encourage everyone to try something new, stretch ourselves further than normal, and find out what we are truly capable of. That is why I have chosen the theme of Test Your Limits.
The best way to Test Your Limits is to set yourself a goal and work to accomplish it. My vision for this year is to have every single member in the district earn an educational award. If you have recently finished your CC, set a goal to earn an Advanced Communicator Award. If you are a club or district officer, set a goal to earn an Advanced Leadership Award. If you have already have a DTM, set your self a goal to review the basics and complete a new CC. On top of the personal rewards of the program, if everyone is working together to earn awards, our meetings will be more focused, and our clubs will grow.
I would like to present the new District 21 executive team:
Tom Jones, DTM. Lt. Governor of Education & Training
Reamick Lo, DTM. Lt. Governor of Marketing
Haddy Abra, DTM. Public Relations Officer
Sylvain Houde, DTM. District Secretary
Ken Barr, DTM. District Treasurer
Field Officer Team
We will be working with you to help the clubs and the members succeed in the Toastmasters programs.
I hope everyone will seek to Test Your Limits this year. You will be amazed at what you can accomplish.
District 21 Governor 2009-2010

A message from our Lieutenant Governor Education & Training (LGET):
My name is Tom Jones and I will serve as Lt. Gov of Education & Training for the 2009-2010 Toastmasters Year. The District theme “Test Your Limits” asks us to step outside our comfort zone. Each of us has been challenged by our District Governor to achieve an education award this year. My personal goal is to achieve another CC and CL. What is your education goal for 2009?
The education and training goals this year is to improve the quality of club meetings and to ensure the timely recognition of members for their achievement of personal awards and service goals. Quality meetings help to attract new members and to retain veteran members. Recognizing members for achieving their goals promotes and inspires them to work even harder on self-improvement efforts.
The Mission of the District
The mission of the district is to enhance the performance and extend the network of clubs, thereby offering greater numbers of people the opportunity to benefit from the Toastmasters educational program by:
Focusing on the critical success factors as specified by the district educational and membership goals.
Ensuring that each club effectively fulfills its responsibilities to its members.
Providing effective training and leadership development opportunities for club and district officers

A message from our Lieutenant Governor Marketing (LGM):
Fellow Toastmasters,
Welcome to the 2009-2010 Toastmasters term with the exciting District theme “Test Your Limits”. Having embraced the leadership challenge to serve as the Lieutenant Governor Marketing, I look forward to the opportunities ahead to test my limits.
How are you as an individual member going to test your limits? How are you going to test your limits as a club, an area or a division? I encourage you all to set achievable goals and work towards meeting them or even exceeding your growth targets to test your limits.
We have a strong and dedicated District Marketing Team and we are here to support you. The marketing team includes:
John Hawkins, New Club Coordinator;
Gene Vickers, Corporate Sales Team Leader;
Ron Grender, Corporate Sales Team Assistant;
Barry Monaghan, Club Rescue Coordinator & Trainer;
Andrew Dlugan, Corporate Club Liaison;
Venie Dettmers, Dues Collection Leader; and
Alan Warburton, Club Mentor Coordinator
Together as a group, we can challenge ourselves to submit dues renewal reports and officers lists on time, assist weaker clubs to regain charter strength, continue to build our membership base, develop and implement membership retention strategies, charter new clubs in both corporations and the community, and market our fine clubs to the community at large.
Most importantly, enjoy the camaraderie and have fun with your Toastmasters meeting and events. It’s when we experience the joy as a Toastmaster, that we are inspired to meet our goals and see the possibilities in overcoming our challenges.
Enjoy the 2009-2010 term. Together we’ll test our limits!
Warm regards,
LGM (09-10)

A message from our Public Relations Officer (PRO):
The quality of our lives is determined by how effectively we learn to communicate.
In Toastmasters we have found a wonderful resource to improve those skills. We need to do all we can to help members fully embrace the opportunities available to us as well as getting the word out to prospective members.
As the District 21 Public Relations Officer, I will be actively involved in keeping individual Toastmasters informed about Toastmasters activities as well as promoting the organization externally via publicity and community relations.
I will assist with website and newsletter production, officer training and conference planning. In addition, I look forward to working closely with other District 21 officers to help achieve goals related to educational completions and membership building.

A message from our District Treasurer:
The District theme this year is “Test Your Limits.”
I recently increased my scheduled activities by fifteen hours per week. The benefits obtained from this so far include increased self-awareness, improved time management, and a clearer understanding of my priorities.
Some of the limits we face are self-imposed, others are set by others. My role as District Treasurer is to help ensure that the District has sufficient funds to carry out its activities and that the required reports are sent Toastmasters International so that they, in turn, can meet their reporting requirements.
From time to time, I answer, as best as I am able, enquiries from club and district officers concerning the numerous, arcane features of Toastmasters administration.
